About Me

making landscaping beautiful and beneficial

Landscaping your yard could be more beneficial than you think. The landscaping can actually be more than just beautiful - it could be effective in controlling water flow and pests in your yard. How do you create a landscape design that will be both beautiful and beneficial? Are some plants better and more hardy than others? How do you choose what plants to place where? How much hardscape does your design need? These and many other landscaping questions are answered on my website. Take a moment to read up on my personal experiences and learn from what I have been through in the past.

Adding A Wildflower Garden Area In Front Of Your Porch

If you wish to give your home some added curb appeal, you may have considered planting flowers in front of your porch in an attempt to give the area a burst of color. One great way to give the front of your home some character is with the addition of a wildflower mix. Here are some tips you can use to ensure the seeds you plant in this area grow healthy and strong.

Obtain A Wildflower Mix To Enhance The Landscape

Wildflowers in several colors can be purchased in a seed form from a catalog or your local home goods store in the garden section. Make sure to read the back of the package of each of the types of seeds you select to see what time of year they should be planted, how much water they will need, and whether they need shade or sun. Each type you select should have similar instructions for the best chance of all flowers growing. It is a good idea to purchase perennials if you wish to have your flowers grow back year after year. If you want to have different color schemes each year, then stick with annuals so you can switch up the types of flowers used each year.

Use The Right Planting Equipment To Ensure Growth Probability

Dig out the area in front of your porch with a shovel. If the area is rocky, you may want to put the removed soil through a strainer to remove the rocks before the soil is replaced after your seed-sowing session. Rent a hydroseeder to help you with the planting process. This piece of machinery allows you to plant the seeds along with mulch and an appropriate amount of water so the seeds are planted at an even rate along the ground. The mulch will help keep the moisture near the seeds underground so they have a better chance of growing. For more information about hydroseeders, talk to a landscaper like Bark Blowers & Hydroseeding Inc.

Take Care Of The Area Daily To Encourage Flower Growth

It will be important to keep up with maintaining the land with ample water so the flowers grow. If the wildflowers require a lot of water, you may want to invest in a sprinkler to help keep them hydrated. Most wildflowers will grow in an area where direct sunlight is not required. There is no need to add a fertilizer to the soil as wildflowers grow best in soils with low nitrogen levels. Fertilizing your soil would also encourage weeds to grow among your floral blooms. Take the time to pull any weeds  right away so they do not spread.
