Drainage around your home is important. With good drainage, you can prevent damage to foundations and other areas of your home. There may be areas around your home where the drainage can be improved. This can be around things like above ground pools and landscaping features, such as retaining walls. Here are some tips to help you improve the drainage around your home:     

1. Adding Better Drainage Around Areas Like Pools

If you have added a pool to your home, it has backfill, which can include sand and gravel. Without the proper drainage, these materials can erode away. It is important to make sure that there is a drainage system to divert water away from your pool.  Above ground pools can also be damaged by water runoff. Make sure that the grading and drainage divert water away from the pool to prevent drainage problems.

2. Improving Foundation With Drain Tiles Around Your Home

The foundation of your home can also be improved with better drainage. If you do not have a drainage system around your home, tiles can be added. These perforated pipes are buried in the ground to allow water to drain away from the foundation. This can prevent static water pressure that can lead to cracks and structural damage. This is an improvement that you may want to consider if you have a home with a finished basement.

3. Adding Drains To Areas Like Patios And Gutter Downspouts

Drains can also be added to areas like patios and gutter downspouts. If you have a patio that is near your home with poor drainage, you may want to consider having grates and drainage installed to prevent water problems. You can also add drainage lines to gutters to ensure that water is carried far away from the foundation of your home.
